Most ketchup has white vinegar in it, which contains gluten. Below is a recipe for ketchup that can be made in less than fifteen minutes at home and stored in the refrigerator.
Ingredients
1 12 oz can tomato paste
¼ cup water
½ teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground rosemary
1 teaspoon ground sage
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon spaghetti seasonings (you can use any italian/spaghetti seasoning mix you’ll find at the grocery store for this, or a combination of basil, oregano, red pepper buy real valtrex flakes if you like a little spice, and dried onion flakes)
1 tablespoon vinegar
3 tablespoons honey
Put the tomato paste and water in a small saucepan and stir. Heat the saucepan to medium heat. Add the remaining ingredients and stir until fully blended. Test it and add more honey/sugar to taste.
As soon as ketchup is fully mixed, remove from heat. It is best if cooled for at least 1 hour before serving.
Hi Linnea,
What is your “spaghetti seasoning”?
Thanks,
Laurie
Hey Laurie,
Sorry I wasn’t clearer there! Our spaghetti seasoning is a mix of oregano, basil, mild red pepper flakes, and minced onions (all dried, of course). You could use the typical “italian seasoning” mix in place of it or you could use a combo of the seasonings I listed above. I’ll clarify that in the recipe too!
