Chocolate Smoothie

Print Friendly and PDF chocosmoothie-16You didn’t think I’d dare to go and post a recipe for cold chocolate smoothie when it’s still freezing at night out here. But I dared. Mostly just to be mean. Hopefully you’ll make this smoothie, and, realizing how good it is, you’ll drink it all before you realize how cold it is. And then you’ll sit there shivering in a blanket.

The best thing I can recommend is that you buy one of those blankets with sleeves that everyone has been raving about lately. Those things aren’t exactly beautiful but they look really warm. And anyway I’m used to wearing ugly warm things around the house. My sister has a green jacket that we call “The Eskimo Jacket,” but since she doesn’t wear it much I adopted it. She recently decided to take it away again, so I adopted another ugly jacket from a different sister. So I’m good and warm over here. My smoothie glass is empty and I’m not even shivering. HA! chocosmoothie-13 If you’re one of those cold-blooded people who wear coats even in the summertime, then you can save this recipe. Oh, come on, I’m sure you have a pinterest board that you can stick it on.  I have a pinterest board (or three or four or five) and I’m not even afraid to admit it!

*let’s have a moment of sympathy for the pinterest addicts*

And while we’re at it we might as well have a moment of sympathy for the coffee addicts.

And the chocolate addicts.

And the chocolate smoothie addicts. chocosmoothie-17 Okay, never mind.

Ingredients

1 ounce of 100% chocolate

1 ½ cups milk (or 1 cup milk and ½ cup cream if you’re daring)

1 tablespoon cocoa

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 teaspoons honey

1 teaspoon leftover coffee chocosmoothie-5 Alrighty. Put the 100% chocolate, 1/2 a cup of the milk, the cocoa, vanilla, the honey, and the chocolate into a saucepan on medium-low heat. Stir occasionally until the chocolate and honey are melted, then remove from heat. While stirring, slowly drizzle in another ½ cup milk.

Pour the whole thing into a paper cup and put it in the freezer overnight. chocosmoothie-6 The next day, when you want your delightful smoothie snack… Remove the cup from the freezer, cut the top of the cup, then tear it so that you can get the frozen chocolate goodness out.

Cut.

Cut.

Tear.

Tear.

Chop up the frozen smoothie mix until each chunk is about the size of an ice cube. chocosmoothie-10 chocosmoothie-11 Dump the blocks of frozen smoothie into the blender and pour on the last ½ cup of milk.

Blend on medium speed until smooth, icy, and amazing.

Pour it into a cup, shave some 100% chocolate on top, and eat. chocosmoothie-15Print Friendly and PDF

I say we make up a bunch of batches and have them ready so we don’t have to wait over night for it to freeze in order to have one now.

I say that’s a great idea. Maybe freezing a large batch of smoothie mix once a week? After all, when I want my chocolate smoothie I want it right away! 🙂

Can I just not freeze it and dump it into the Vitamix with ice?

You can do pretty much whatever you want. That’s why I like smoothies. They’re flexible.
